The Terrible Surapadma

After defeating Tarakasura, Kartikeya faced another demon — Surapadma, who was even more cunning. When Surapadma realised he could not defeat Kartikeya in battle, he used his dark magic to transform into different creatures, trying to escape or trick the young god.

First he became a giant tree, hoping to hide. Kartikeya's Vel spear split the tree in two. Then Surapadma transformed into a massive, terrifying bird — dark as a thundercloud, with wings that blocked out the sun. He flew at Kartikeya with razor-sharp talons, screeching with rage.

The cosmic bird was fearsome — bigger than any creature anyone had seen, with feathers like blades and eyes like burning coals.

তারকাসুরকে পরাজিত করার পর কার্তিকেয় আরেক দানবের মুখোমুখি হলেন — সূরপদ্মা, যে ছিল আরও ধূর্ত। সূরপদ্মা যখন বুঝল সে কার্তিকেয়কে যুদ্ধে হারাতে পারবে না, সে তার কালো যাদু ব্যবহার করে বিভিন্ন প্রাণীতে রূপান্তরিত হলো, তরুণ দেবতাকে পালিয়ে যাওয়ার বা ধোঁকা দেওয়ার চেষ্টা করল।

প্রথমে সে বিশাল গাছ হলো, লুকানোর আশায়। কার্তিকেয়ের বেল বর্শা গাছটিকে দুভাগ করে দিল। তারপর সূরপদ্মা এক বিশাল, ভয়ংকর পাখিতে রূপান্তরিত হলো — বজ্রমেঘের মতো কালো, ডানা মেলে সূর্য ঢেকে দিল। সে ধারালো নখর নিয়ে ক্রোধে চিৎকার করতে করতে কার্তিকেয়ের দিকে উড়ে এলো।

মহাজাগতিক পাখিটি ছিল ভয়ংকর — কেউ কখনো দেখেনি এমন বিশাল, তরবারির মতো পালক আর জ্বলন্ত কয়লার মতো চোখ।

The Vel Strikes

বেলের আঘাত

Kartikeya stood calm as the monstrous bird attacked. He raised his Vel spear — the weapon of pure divine light — and threw it with perfect aim. The spear didn't just hit the bird; it transformed it. The dark, evil energy was split apart by the spear's divine light.

Where the halves of the demon bird fell, something magical happened. One half transformed into a magnificent peacock — its dark feathers now shimmering with iridescent blue and green, its tail displaying a thousand jewelled eyes. The rage in its heart was replaced by grace. The hatred was washed away by beauty.

The other half became a rooster, proud and bright, which would later become the symbol on Kartikeya's battle flag.

দৈত্য পাখির দুই অর্ধেক যেখানে পড়ল, সেখানে অলৌকিক কিছু ঘটল। একটি অর্ধেক রূপান্তরিত হলো এক মহিমান্বিত ময়ূরে — তার কালো পালক এখন ঝলমলে নীল ও সবুজে ঝিকমিক করছে, তার লেজে হাজারো রত্নখচিত চোখ প্রদর্শিত। হৃদয়ের ক্রোধ প্রতিস্থাপিত হলো লাবণ্যে। ঘৃণা ধুয়ে গেল সৌন্দর্যে।

অন্য অর্ধেক হলো একটি মোরগ, গর্বিত ও উজ্জ্বল, যা পরে কার্তিকেয়ের যুদ্ধ পতাকার প্রতীক হবে।

From Enemy to Friend

শত্রু থেকে বন্ধু

The newly-born peacock looked up at Kartikeya with different eyes now — not hatred, but gratitude. The divine spear hadn't just defeated the demon; it had freed the beauty trapped inside the evil. The peacock knelt before Kartikeya as if to say, "Thank you for freeing me from darkness."

Kartikeya didn't push the peacock away or treat it with suspicion. Instead, he smiled and gently stroked its brilliant feathers. "You were once my enemy," he said softly, "but now you shall be my closest companion." He mounted the peacock, and from that day forward, they were inseparable.

The peacock carried Kartikeya with pride, its beautiful tail fanned out like a jewelled throne, its steps graceful and sure. Where once it had screamed in rage, now it danced with joy.

নবজাত ময়ূর এখন অন্য চোখে কার্তিকেয়ের দিকে তাকাল — ঘৃণা নয়, কৃতজ্ঞতায়। দিব্য বর্শা শুধু দানবকে পরাজিত করেনি; মন্দের ভেতরে বন্দী সৌন্দর্যকে মুক্ত করেছিল। ময়ূর কার্তিকেয়ের সামনে নতজানু হলো যেন বলছে, "আমাকে অন্ধকার থেকে মুক্ত করার জন্য ধন্যবাদ।"

কার্তিকেয় ময়ূরকে দূরে ঠেলে দিলেন না বা সন্দেহের চোখে দেখলেন না। বরং তিনি হেসে আলতো করে তার উজ্জ্বল পালকে হাত বুলালেন। "তুমি একদিন আমার শত্রু ছিলে," তিনি মৃদুস্বরে বললেন, "কিন্তু আজ থেকে তুমি আমার সবচেয়ে কাছের সঙ্গী হবে।" তিনি ময়ূরে চড়লেন, এবং সেদিন থেকে তাঁরা অবিচ্ছেদ্য হলেন।

The Beautiful Lesson

This is why you always see Kartikeya riding a peacock. And this story has a wonderful lesson for all of us.

Kartikeya could have simply destroyed the demon. No one would have blamed him — the demon was evil and dangerous. But instead, Kartikeya's divine power transformed evil into beauty. He showed that the greatest victory isn't destroying your enemy — it's transforming them.

Think about it: the peacock — one of the most beautiful birds in all of creation — was born from a demon. Sometimes the people who seem most difficult, most angry, most frightening, have beauty inside them that's just waiting to be freed.

And forgiveness? Kartikeya didn't hold a grudge. He didn't say, "You were my enemy, so I can never trust you." He gave the peacock a chance to be something new and wonderful. That is true strength — not the power to destroy, but the grace to transform and forgive.

এই কারণেই তুমি সবসময় কার্তিকেয়কে ময়ূরে চড়তে দেখো। আর এই গল্পে আমাদের সকলের জন্য এক চমৎকার শিক্ষা আছে।

আর ক্ষমা? কার্তিকেয় বিদ্বেষ পোষণ করেননি। তিনি বলেননি, "তুমি আমার শত্রু ছিলে, তাই আমি তোমাকে কখনো বিশ্বাস করতে পারব না।" তিনি ময়ূরকে নতুন ও চমৎকার কিছু হওয়ার সুযোগ দিলেন। এটাই প্রকৃত শক্তি — ধ্বংসের ক্ষমতা নয়, রূপান্তর ও ক্ষমার করুণা।

সবচেয়ে বড় বিজয় শত্রু ধ্বংস করা নয় — শত্রুকে রূপান্তরিত করা। ময়ূরের মতো, সকলের ভেতরে সৌন্দর্য আছে!
